The 'B' test
There are many reasons to look at taking the BMFA 'B' test. Some disciplines require this test of course, such as display organisations & some levels at competitions. However, it is also required by some clubs for flying more advance models, for example flying models that are over 7.5kg's, or turbine models.
Even if you are not yet planning to fly a model that requires the test, it is an excellent standard to progress to, as it encourages you to practice more precise flying, as well as flying some basic precision aerobatics.
All the requirements are of course in the BMFA Fixed Wing Certificates Manual.
Here is an instructional video on how to neatly fly the manoeuvres in the 'B' test. It starts from the loop, as the first two manoeuvres are exactly the same as the BMFA 'A' test (circuit and figure of 8), these are covered in the 'A' test video.
The manoeuvres do flow well one after another, but there is no need to do so, you could fly a positioning manoeuvre between each one if you wish.
When learning the manoeuvres, the quick reference guide is a handy aide memoire. Remember that during the test the manoeuvres must be flown in the order shown.
Use of the check list will help standardization of the procedures and of course will help to ease any nerves the candidate may have when taking the test.
