Training - to be able to fly without supervision

The BMFA 'A' test is used by many model clubs as their 'Safe to fly solo' certificate. As such, it also forms the structure for the Basic Training program.

A quick reference guide, showing the requirements & a description of the required individual manoeuvres in the A test is shown on the right:

Please note that the manoeuvres must be flown in the correct order, as shown on the guide.

A guidance and instructional video of how to fly the 'A' Test. This was created using a Flight Simulator with the BMFA National Centre at Buckminster set as the location. A 10mph wind, blowing down the runway helps to show how you need to plan and compensate for the wind (please ignore the windsock on the video as it is just from a taken from a photo at the location).

The basic BMFA reference for both the 'A' and the 'B' test is the Fixed Wing Power certificate document which gives guidance to both the Test Standards for Examiners & Guidance for Test Candidates, on all aspects of the test.
